5 Things That Are Hiding In Your Carpet

Carpets that are not replaced as often as they should be can hold onto a plethora of nasty things. Depending on how high the traffic area where you have carpet is, maybe you don’t even want to know what is hiding in there. If you are curious and want to know what is hiding in your carpet fibers we have done some research for you.

1. Mold Could Be Hiding in Your Carpet

Your carpet is highly susceptible to mold growth, and once those spores have found a new home in your home then they’ll continue to grow. Just because you can’t see them, doesn’t mean they’re not there! You can do your best to fight them by keeping your carpets dry in between deep cleanings!

2. Dirt is Trapped in Your Carpet

Carpets are virtual magnets for dirt. Did you know that the average carpet holds four times its weight in dirt? Are you a follower of the three-second rule? Ever pick up a piece of food off the carpet when you’ve dropped it and just popped it in your mouth? You’re not alone! But now maybe you’ll think twice before you do it. Dirt lives in carpets!

3. Food is Stuck in Your Carpet

Speaking of food…whether you’re a three-second rule person or not, if you’re ever dropped food or drink on your carpet then there are definitely bits of rotting food in your carpet. No matter how well you clean up after a mess, there will always be microscopic particles you can’t see with the naked eye. Your health and the health of your family is at risk because of these contaminants in your carpet.

4. Dust and Dust Mites are in Your Carpet

It seems that sometimes when you finish dusting around your space, there’s a new layer of dust awaiting you. Your home is capable of accumulating pounds and pounds of dust per year. You know what that means. Dust mites! These are the microscopic organisms we mentioned before. They won’t bite or attack you, but they do produce a huge amount of waste that can be harmful to you and your family. Respiratory problems are a  huge concern when it comes to dust mites!

5. Old Skin Sheds into Your Carpet

Yes, your dead skin cells are also trapped in your carpet fibers. The worst part is that this is what those pesky dust mites eat and thrive on! Every little itch you scratch and hair that falls from your head, whether you’re conscious of it or not adds weight and allergens to your carpet. We lose an average of 1.5 million skin flakes per day and this is a great argument for regularly cleaning, caring for and replacing your carpet.

Allergens can be a Result of Not Properly Cleaning Carpet

So what’s the big deal about all of the things listed above? Allergens! Whether it’s you or your family members or guests in your home, someone is suffering as a result of the allergens stuck in your carpet! Carpets are magnets for allergens! With every changing season, you’ll get a new round making its way into your home and into your carpet. If sneezing and sinus problems are wreaking havoc on you or your loved ones, then it may just be coming from your carpets!

The good news is, there is a lot you can do to offset these problems. Vacuum regularly to suck up dust, dirt and microscopic particles of food or dead skin cells. Every few months, be sure to have your carpets and rugs cleaned professionally. Unless you’ve got the right equipment and cleaning products that professionals have, then chances are you’ll need to call upon a carpet cleaning company you trust to get the job done and protect you and your loved ones!
