Knowing when it’s time to get new carpet for your home is a difficult decision. Fortunately, here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help you know when it’s time to upgrade your home’s carpeting.

Are there noticeable stains and/or wear and tear on your carpet?

If you replaced your carpet every time you noticed a new stain or tear, you’d soon be broke. There is, however, a time when stains and/or wear and tear become significantly noticeable to the point that it’s time to start thinking about which new carpet will look best in your home. If you find yourself relocating furniture and rugs to cover up stains, and carpet cleaning won’t rid the problem, you should begin considering new carpet. Because our minds become accustomed to imperfections, ask your friends (the honest ones) to take a look around and let you know if it’s time.

Smells, Mold and Allergies?

Deep, penetrating stains can lead to mold developing underneath your carpet. Often, this results in worsening allergies for some people or an unpleasant odor emanating from the carpet. Other times, odors and allergies can worsen simply due to the accumulation of dirt and odors from pets and normal use. If the smell or allergies in a room is at all noticeable, it’s best to invest in a new carpet.

Ancient Carpet?

Typically, after ten years or so, it becomes time to look into a new carpet. The need for constant cleaning and maintenance of a carpet is a good sign it’s probably time for the carpet to retire. Again, the eyes and advice of someone who isn’t in your home everyday can be very helpful to let you know your carpet is in need of replacement.

Benefits of New Carpet

Although the selection and installation process of new carpet can be overwhelming, the help of a trained carpet specialist can make the process relatively stress-free and well worth it. New carpets will go a long way to providing a needed style, color and visual change in your home. Patterned carpet, for example, is a great upgrade to inject personality into your living room. You will find yourself enjoying the carpet upgrade, as will friends and guests. A new carpet also rids your home of odors, molds and dirt that have embedded themselves deep in the carpet fibers, making your home healthier and more pleasant.
